Hearing impairment affects more than just your ability to hear — it affects your quality of life. Fifth Avenue Hearing stresses the importance of an accurate and timely hearing test. The hearing evaluation is just the beginning of your treatment, and it’s essential to setting your unique care plan in motion and taking action on hearing loss. Your in depth hearing evaluation will help us craft a treatment plan that renews your ability to connect with your family and friends, allowing you to truly live your best life on your terms.

Our Audiologist’s Approach

A hearing examination at Fifth Avenue Hearing involves a series of tests designed to evaluate your hearing ability and identify any issues that may be affecting it. Our thorough approach ensures that we can provide the most effective treatment plan for your unique needs.

During your hearing examination, we will:

1. History

You & Dr. Yakubov will discuss your health history, including your family history and any hearing concerns you may have. This helps our audiologist to compile a comprehensive medical health history and understand your hearing needs.

2. Otoscopy

Dr. Yakubov will conduct a visual inspection of your ears using an otoscope. This examination helps our audiologist to ensure your ears are not blocked by anything such as wax or a growth in the ear canals.

3. Hearing Testing

Dr. Yakubov will perform a series of audiometric tests using words and tones to assess your hearing threshold levels and to determine the type and severity of any hearing loss.

3. Results & Treatment

We will discuss the results of the tests performed and if appropriate, Dr. Yakubov will provide recommendations for solutions to your hearing problem.

At Fifth Avenue Hearing, we understand that hearing loss can be a sensitive subject. Our compassionate team will work with you in a private and comfortable setting to ensure you feel at ease throughout the entire process.

Conductive Hearing Loss

Conductive hearing loss occurs when there are problems in the outer ear, ear canal, eardrum or middle ear. A conductive hearing loss is often correctable with surgery or medications.

Sensorineural hearing loss

Sensorineural hearing loss involves a problem with the inner ear, and is frequently referred to as “nerve deafness.” Sensorineural hearing loss is most often remediated through the use of hearing aids.

Mixed Hearing Loss

Mixed hearing loss is a combination of both conductive hearing loss and sensorineural hearing loss. Treatment will typically involve a combination of medication, surgery and/or hearing aids.
